Google Launches Personal Intelligence, Letting Gemini Use Your Emails, Photos and History for Hyper-Personalized Answers

Google is rolling out a new feature that allows its Gemini AI to pull directly from users’ personal data to deliver more customized responses.

In a series of posts on X, Google announces the launch of Personal Intelligence, a beta feature that lets Gemini securely connect information from apps such as Gmail, Google Photos, Search and YouTube history with a single tap, provided users give permission.

The tech giant says the goal is to move beyond generic AI answers by allowing Gemini to reason across multiple personal data sources at once, producing responses tailored to individual habits, interests and context.

One example Google highlights involves everyday problem-solving.

“Ever need to buy parts for your car but don’t have the info handy?

Ask Gemini to ‘Recommend tires for my car.’

By referencing connected apps like Gmail and Photos, it can understand your car’s make and model, and even the types of trips you take, to give recommendations for tires and info like your license plate number to make your visit to the auto shop go more smoothly.”

Google says the same cross-source reasoning applies to planning and discovery. Rather than offering generic travel lists, Gemini can suggest activities based on a user’s travel dates from Gmail and personal interests inferred from Google Photos, such as recommending nature-focused locations to photography enthusiasts.

The feature also extends to recommendations across media and content. Gemini can suggest books or other materials by matching a user’s current interests across connected sources, rather than relying on broad popularity rankings.

Google emphasizes that Personal Intelligence is designed to be user-controlled. Users can disconnect apps, adjust permissions or delete chat history at any time, with the company stressing that participation is entirely optional.

The feature is launching today in beta within the Gemini app in English for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States. Google says the rollout will expand gradually to additional countries, the free tier and AI Mode in Search in the future.
