Jamie Dimon Says People With These Five Skills Will Have ‘Plenty of Jobs’ in the Age of AI

Jamie Dimon believes artificial intelligence will transform society in ways that ultimately expand opportunity, even as it disrupts traditional jobs.

In a recent Fox Business interview, the JPMorgan Chase CEO says AI is the latest chapter in a long history of productivity breakthroughs, noting that while the technology will eliminate certain roles, it will also create new forms of work for people who adapt.

Dimon compares AI to past innovations that reshaped the economy and improved the quality of life, while initially raising fears about displacement.

“And for the most part, AI is going to do great stuff for mankind, like tractors did, like fertilizers did, like vaccines did. It’ll save lives. Maybe one day we’ll be working less hard, but having wonderful lives. So it’ll cure a lot of cancers, a lot of composite materials.”

At the same time, Dimon acknowledged that AI carries risks and will inevitably be misused, requiring oversight similar to other transformative technologies.

“There are downsides to AI, just like there are to airplanes, pharmaceuticals, cars, all things used by bad people. So, assuming that the government figured out some way to put guardrails around AI, it will eliminate jobs. That doesn’t mean that people won’t have other jobs.”

But Dimon says the workers most likely to thrive will be those who focus on skills that machines struggle to replicate, especially human judgment and communication.

“My advice to people would be, critical thinking, learn skills, learn your EQ, learn how to be good at a meeting, how to communicate, how to write, you’ll have plenty of jobs.”

Dimon’s thoughts on workers who will excel in the age of AI echo the findings of a study conducted by researchers from the University of Boston and University College London. The study found that while AI lifts all users, those who are “better able to infer and adapt to others’ perspectives achieve superior collaborative performance with AI.”
