Elon Musk says he’s looking at a couple of companies tied to artificial intelligence that he believes would have immense value in the future.
In a new interview with Nikhil Kamath, Musk outlines which firms he believes are positioned to dominate the next era of growth as AI scales across every sector.
Musk notes that if he had to pick stocks outside of his own companies, he would choose firms in the AI and robotics sectors.
“I suppose there would be AI and robotics that are not related to me. I think Google is going to be pretty valuable in the future. They have laid the groundwork for an immense amount of value creation from an AI standpoint. Nvidia is obvious at this point.”
Musk expands the point by saying that AI, robotics and space flight firms will ultimately control most of the global economic output in the future. He says the scale of production from automated systems will fundamentally exceed anything created by traditional industries.
“I mean, there is an argument that companies that do AI and robotics and maybe space flight are going to be overwhelmingly all the value, almost all the value. So the output of goods and services from AI and robotics is so high that it will dwarf everything else.”
Musk subsequently pivots to how the AI-driven transformation could reshape personal income and the basic structure of work.
“I think it will be universal high income… I think it will not be the case that you have to be in a city for a job. Because I think, my prediction is, in the future, working will be optional.”
He adds that AI will make it possible for people to obtain nearly anything they can imagine as production costs collapse. Musk also says that AI will eventually saturate every human desire, pushing systems to produce for themselves once they have exhausted the full range of human needs.
“If you can think of it, you can have a type of thing. But then at a certain point, AI will actually saturate on anything humans can think of. And then at that point, it becomes a situation where AI is doing things for AI and robotics because they have run out of things to do to make the humans happy.
People can only eat so much food. If you can think of it, you can have it. It will be the future.”
