Elon Musk Teases ‘Banger Next-Level’ Tesla Roadster – But Travis Kalanick Says Self-Driving Lacks ‘ChatGPT Moment’

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the specifications of the firm’s next-generation Roadster could come out as soon as next month.

In a new post on X, Musk says the unveiling of the much-awaited Roadster could happen in April.

“New Roadster unveil hopefully next month.

It will be a banger next-level.”

In February of 2024, Musk said that the new Roadster could accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than one second, emphasizing that it’s the “least interesting part.” For context, the fastest accelerating electric vehicle is the Rimac Nevera, which can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 1.74 seconds.

Amid the excitement about the incoming release of the Roadster’s full specifications, Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick says the self-driving sector is all bark and no bite for now. In a new interview on the All-In Podcast, Kalanick notes that neither Waymo nor Tesla is close to attaining full self-driving capabilities.

“Waymo is obviously ahead. Their issue is manufacturing, scale, urgency, and fierceness… Then you’ve got Tesla: fundamentals, science, hard mode times 100. When does the ChatGPT moment happen for vision? It’s super inspiring, but what’s the timeline on it? And then there are a lot of other little guys that don’t really have the stuff yet.”

Still, Kalanick implies on X that the new Roadster could surprise even the harshest critics.

“When I’ve run into people who are in the know, I inquire, they tell me nothing, but their eyebrows raise, and their eyes widen in a way that can only mean something of sorcery and magic is coming…”
