Apple Accelerates AI Wearables Push With Smart Glasses, Pendant and Next-Gen AirPods: Report

Apple is quietly building a new class of AI-powered hardware that could redefine how users interact with Siri.

The company is accelerating development of three wearable devices: smart glasses, a camera-equipped pendant and upgraded AirPods with expanded artificial intelligence capabilities, Bloomberg reports.

All three products are being designed around Siri, which would rely on visual context to carry out actions. The devices will connect to the iPhone and use built-in cameras with varying levels of sophistication, according to people familiar with the plans.

The most advanced of the trio is the smart glasses.

The glasses are expected to feature two cameras: one for high-resolution imagery and another dedicated to computer vision, similar to the technology used in Apple’s Vision Pro headset. The second sensor would help the device interpret surroundings and measure the distance between objects, giving Siri a clearer understanding of what the user is seeing.

The goal is to create an all-day AI companion.

Users could look at an object and ask what it is, inquire about ingredients in a meal, or have printed text converted into digital information. The glasses could add details from an event poster directly to a calendar or generate reminders tied to specific physical locations, such as prompting someone to grab an item when standing in front of the correct grocery shelf. For navigation, Siri could reference real-world landmarks instead of generic turn-by-turn directions.

The pendant and AirPods are envisioned as simpler extensions of that vision.

Both would include lower-resolution cameras meant to provide environmental context for AI features rather than for taking photos or videos. Internally, some Apple employees reportedly refer to the pendant as the “eyes and ears” of the iPhone. It would function as an always-on camera accessory with a microphone for Siri input and could be worn clipped to clothing or as a necklace.

The push places Apple alongside companies such as OpenAI and Meta, which are also exploring AI-driven hardware.

The smart glasses could arrive as soon as 2027, while the AirPods and pendant may launch earlier, possibly this year or next. Apple declined to comment on the report.

If successful, the strategy would shift Siri from a voice-only assistant into a system that sees and understands the physical world in real time, marking Apple’s most direct move yet into the emerging AI wearables race.
