Tesla CEO Elon Musk says he needs more voting power to influence the company’s next phase of AI expansion, one that could unlock an “infinite money glitch.”
Speaking at Tesla’s Q3 2025 earnings call, Musk says his desire for greater voting control is tied to the coming wave of Optimus humanoid robots, a program he claims could redefine global productivity and wealth creation.
Musk says greater voting power will allow him to maintain authority over the production of a “robot army” capable of producing economic output far beyond human labor.
“So you’re trying to make 1 million or something per year — trying to make 1 million Optimus robots per year, that manufacturing challenge is immense, considering that the supply chain doesn’t exist.”
He says without voting power, he could lose control of Tesla’s most powerful creation.
“My fundamental concern with regard to how much voting control I have in Tesla is, if I go ahead and build this enormous robot army, can I just be outset at some point in the future? That’s my biggest concern. That is really the only thing I’m trying to address with this so-called compensation, but it’s not like I’m going to go spend the money. It’s just if we build this robot army, do I have at least a strong influence over that robot army, not control, but a strong influence. That’s what it comes down to in a nutshell.”
The Tesla CEO says the Optimus program will make work optional for humans and give rise to a world of “sustainable abundance.”
“Optimus at scale is the infinite money glitch. It’s like this is — it’s difficult to express the magnitude of — like if you’ve got something like that — like if Optimus, I think, probably achieves 5x the productivity of a person per year because it can operate 24/7, it doesn’t even need to charge. It can operate tethered. So it’s plugged in the whole time. And what — so that’s why I call it like if you’re true to sustainable abundance, where working will be optional. There’s a limit to how much AI can do in terms of enhancing the productivity of humans, but there is not really a limit to AI that is embodied. That’s why I call the infinite money glitch.”
Musk previously said that AI and robots will replace all jobs, allowing humans to live carefree lives in the age of artificial intelligence.
“Working will be optional, like growing your own vegetables, instead of buying them from the store.”
