Google CEO Sundar Pichai Warns of Incoming Threat for Crypto Security, Says Humans Will Soon Collaborate With Superintelligent AI

The chief executive of tech giant Google sounds the alarm about a looming threat that could expose the system protecting cryptocurrencies.

Speaking at the Dreamforce 2025 event, Sundar Pichai says the world of digital assets will soon face a period when existing cryptographic defenses may no longer be sufficient, forcing rapid adaptation across the industry.

He says the quantum era will serve as a catalyst for innovation that will drive blockchain networks to look for solutions.

“We will have that moment where, from a cryptographic standpoint, we have to adapt to quantum for sure… I think as a society, it will also create an opportunity for people to come and provide new solutions.”

He adds that the transition will likely unfold within the next three to five years, as quantum computing reaches the scale and capability to break current encryption standards used across the internet and blockchain networks.

Looking beyond the immediate risks, Pichai says the next decade will be defined by collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence, not competition.

“If you ask me 10 years from now, look, we are definitely going to have digital superintelligence as a collaborator for all of us. That is going to be a reality.”

Pichai says humanity’s resilience has always been its greatest strength, arguing that societies consistently adapt faster than expected to paradigm shifts in technology.

“I put my dad in a Waymo. I sat in the back seat. He was in the front seat… It felt like that’s science fiction, right? And my kids, they could’ve gone on their phones, and they were like, whatever….

And so we have this remarkable ability to adapt. We are such a remarkably resilient, adaptive species. You know, we’re going to adapt to this technology, and it’s going to be there.”
