Elon Musk says X is preparing to hand over its recommendation engine entirely to artificial intelligence, with its in-house system Grok set to analyze tens of millions of posts every day.
In a new post on X, Musk says Grok and other AI tools are now driving the improvements users are seeing in their feeds.
The shift marks one of the most sweeping algorithmic transformations since Musk acquired the platform in 2022.
He says the recent upgrades are no longer the result of human engineers tweaking code or adjusting rules. Instead, AI systems are learning in real time to predict what users want to see.
“To the degree that people are seeing improvements in their feed, it is not due to the actions of specific individuals changing heuristics, but rather increasing use of Grok and other AI tools.”
The move, he adds, will become visible to users within days.
“We will post the updated algorithm, including model weights, later this week. You will see that a lot of random vestigial rules are now gone.”
The changes set the stage for a full-scale handover to automation. Musk says X will move to “full AI recommendations” next month, describing how Grok will review all posts and surface only those most likely to capture attention.
“Going to full AI recommendations, where all 100M+ posts per day are evaluated by Grok and those most likely to interest you are recommended, happens next month. This will profoundly improve the quality of your feed.”
He also says the company is building a system that lets users fine-tune their own algorithms.
“Shortly after that, we will build the ability for you to dynamically adjust your recommended content, eg ‘show me less politics.’”
