Google’s Gemini platform hit a new record for monthly visits, marking its strongest growth phase yet as the company doubles down on visual creativity and structured AI reasoning.
Recent data from Similarweb shows visits to gemini.google.com climbed past 1.1 billion in September 2025, a sharp acceleration that underscores how deeply Gemini is beginning to embed itself in Google’s ecosystem.
The surge follows a series of major updates that expand what users can do with both images and data.
In late August, Google introduced a new photo reimagination tool, allowing users to upload multiple images and generate blended or stylized results through text prompts. The feature marked a shift toward visual personalization, giving Gemini a creative edge against rival AI assistants. In September, Google added another layer of functionality through an enhanced version of Gemini 2.5 Flash, available to app users worldwide.
These rapid upgrades appear to be driving sustained user engagement. Similarweb data shows Gemini’s traffic has quadrupled since early 2025, overtaking most competitors in growth momentum.

Similarweb data also shows that nearly half of its audience now visits the platform exclusively, a sign that Google’s cross-product integration — through Search, Android, and Workspace — is converting casual users into loyal ones.
ChatGPT remains the category leader in user retention, but Gemini’s billion-visit breakout signals a critical inflection point: Google’s AI tool is evolving from a product demo into a daily companion for creative and professional tasks.

Last week, Similarweb revealed that Google’s Gemini has more than doubled its share of generative AI traffic over the past 12 months, climbing from 6.5% to 13.7%. The surge came as ChatGPT, still the market leader by a wide margin, has seen its dominance slip. OpenAI’s share fell from 87.1% a year ago to 73.8% today, a drop of 13 points.
