Elon Musk Says Tesla’s Optimus Robots Will Supercharge Global Economy ‘By an Order of Magnitude’

Elon Musk says Tesla’s long-term value now has little to do with cars and almost everything to do with autonomy and humanoid robots.

In a series of new posts on X, Musk says Tesla’s massive valuation to the tune of $1.41 trillion is due to its autonomous systems, which include cars and now humanoid robots.

According to Musk, global productivity would see a massive boost once Optimus rolls out at scale.

“Due to autonomy, Tesla is worth more than the rest of the auto industry. That is before Optimus reaches scale production and increases Earth GDP by an order of magnitude.”

Musk recently said Optimus could be available for public sale by end of 2027.

The tech tycoon widens the lens beyond Earthbound industries, linking robotics, autonomy and space infrastructure as part of a single economic arc. According to Musk, SpaceX is worth more than the combined valuation of all six US defense companies as it is positioned to capture the abundant energy in outer space, while building new internet infrastructure.

“Space-based industries will vastly exceed the value of all of Earth, given that you could harness roughly 100,000 times more energy than Earth and still be using less than a millionth of the Sun’s energy…

This is because SpaceX is rebuilding an improved version of the entire Internet in space, and they are not. NASA revenue this year is only ~5% of SpaceX’s total revenue.”

Just last week, Musk said SpaceX could achieve a major breakthrough this year with full reusability of rockets. He noted that full reusability paves the way for AI compute to run in orbit.
